Dr. David Bannon was a brilliant geneticist who focused his attentions on unlocking the mysteries of the humman brain. More specifically trying to unlock the primal, more animalistic parts of our brain that we lost over the millennia. While certainly not trying to regress people back to their cavemen roots, he was more interested in unlocking the instincts that animals seem to have that warn them of danger and keep their senses heightened.
Despite the taunts he got from his older brother and the rest of his family, his research was going along quite well and he had even progressed as far as building a machine to put his theroies to the test when he was told his funding would be cut off. Desperate to prove his theories and device could work at least partially, he strabbed himself into the machine and switched it on.
This ended up being the worst mistake of his life. While he HAD been able to unlock the primal part of the brain, it change was far more drastic than he could ever have imagined. The machine not only changed his brain patterns but his entire genetic code and suddenly transformed him into a 12 foot tall, hulking beast that knew only destruction.
The creature he had mutated into spread a path of chaos and carnage across several states until the newly formed team of The Protectors arrived to stop his rampage. Though it's strongest members were able to fight him to a stand still, they were still unable to actually beat him despite their considerable combined strength.
Eventually the battle was won when Martian Girl used her mental powers to pulled Dr. Bannon's consciousness from withing the mind of the great beast and made him realize he needed to stop. He was able to stay in control of his new body until they reached prison on The Observatory which had the only prison on the planet that had any hope of holding him.
"Monstrosity", as he had been dubbed by the press, spent the next few months trying to stay in control of his new beastial body with the help of telepathic sessions from both Martian Girl and Dr. Amanda Spalding. Eventually Dr. Bannon's mind gained a majority of control but Monstrosity was always lurking beneath the surface, ready to break free and continue it's rampage at any moment.
David had just resigned himself to living the rest of his life in prison for the saftey of himself and others when he met a girl named Molly who was remarkably similiar to himself and who would soon bring about another massive change in his life...

Poor Dr. Bannon, fate has definitely not been kind to him. Wonder if those that cut off his funding have any regrets about doing it? since that's pretty much led to the creation of Monstrosity and his rampage across multiple states.
At least Bannon has some control over himself now and that's always a good thing when his body is this powerful, too bad the price is that he'll always have to be careful to keep the beast in check.
